Good day all,
I have some old, dense BW negatives.
If I set the scan frame to include only a face in sample negative (35mm), the density looks good. However, if I drag the frame edges out to now include the entire frame, the view dynamically changes to make the content of the resized frame far, far too bright. No amount of changes to the Histogram can possibly make the whole frame dark enough as desired (the density sliders under the histogram just don't go dark enough). I have tried:
1) deleting SF preferences. No change
2) seeing that CCR is checked ON when cropped in to just a face in the sample neg, then unchecked when drawing the frame back out to include the whole negative. The frame still gets far, far brighter than needed and cannot be then made dark enough
Clearly, some kind of automatic density correction is going (poorly) and I can find *no way* of disabling this in SF. Not the first time this software does things it manifestly *should not do*.
Does anyone know where I can unset the automatic density adjustment (yes, CCR is off)?
Thank you for any insight.

Dear customer,
To deactivate NegaFix's automatic histogram adjustment you need to deactivate the auto checkbox.
In an Ai Studio version you will find that in the Expert setting's Expansion tab.
Kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn.

Hi,
I would happily comply, but the Negafix dialog disappears when I option click a second thumbnail to copy settings and IPTC to that image. There does not appear to be a way to manually invoke the Negafix dialog should this happen.
This problem is repeatable and survives a trashing of Silverfast's preferences (either through the Software Reset method in the splash dialog, or manually trashing the preferences).

Dear Timothy,
NegaFix automatically appears when you switch from positive mode to negative mode.
Each frame/job entry has it's own settings. So make sure you either copy the negative mode or switch to negative manually.
Kind regards,
Arne

Re: preview density change with crop
Your software should perform as you suggest, but it does not.
I encourage you to have a neg selected with the Negafix dialog showing, then Option-click another neg in the thumbnail array and watch the Negafix dialog go away (as does the Histogram, but I can have *that* show again by clicking on its icon).
As I said, this is repeatable and survives preference trashing. It is a bug in the software that could be easily resolved by adding a Negafix button to the GUI in the same way there are similar buttons for other dialog panels.

NegaFix is automatically opened when the Negative mode is being selected.
An additional button is not necessary.
Kind regards,
Arne
