Need help with line art scanning

I'm attempting to scan B&W line art drawings that I have on negative film and can't seem to set the SilverFast SE application (v6.5) to 1 bit line art and because that scan type is grayed out on the menu. What am I doing wrong, could someone please explain?

I've attempted to use the 8 Bit Grayscale setting with, but the resultant file is way too large for use. I'm a novice at using SilverFast SE with my film scanner (PlusTek OpticFilm 7200) and would appreciate any suggestions...

Dear Razter

option should be not present at all. This hasn't to do anything with your setup, but with what can be delivered to the software, and 1 bit / black-white / lineart scanning unfortunately isn't possible with your setup.
