More newbie questions

Postby nlcarter » Sun Sep 17, 2017 12:25 am

Greetings:

I've got an Epson Perfection V800 flatbed scanner, thinking I'd archive the myriad of photos we've got in albums and boxes and distribute to family so everyone has access to them. SilverFast 8 came with the scanner, so that's what I've been trying to use.

My questions:

1. Is there a complete, in-depth, manual available somewhere for the SilverFast 8.8 software? I've been struggling with differing methods for doing what I want to do and find it frustrating that I've not been able to find a definitive bit of documentation somewhere. I downloaded and installed the documentation software, but can't figure what it did when it installed it, can't find it anywhere.

2. Tasks! I think I want to use the 'Archive' task for this project, but I'm not happy with the only two options for file formats, TIFF and DNG. As I understand, TIFF images are what has been typically used for faxing, while DNG is basically a raw format put forth by Adobe. I guess I was hoping to use the JPEG format, but it's not an option!

3. Frame rotation. Doesn't work at all. When I hover over the semi-circles at the halfway-point, it turns into a closed fist, but all the dragging in the world does absolutely nothing. What am I missing?

I guess that's enough to get me started. Thanks for listening!

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Neil

Dear Neil,

We offer the documents and tutorial movies on our website. There is no single documentation PDF.

The Archive Task is creating HDR(i) RAW archiving files. These unprocessed archive files can only be stored as Tiff or DNG.
If you want to create JPG files you need to use the edit task.

The frame can not be turned if one of the sides already touches the edge of the preview area or if the Archive output is selected.
The frame can not be rotated outside the scannable and archive formats need to be saved without any pixel transformations.

Kind regards,
Arne

Greetings:

Than you for the reply!

I must admit I'm disappointed in the lack of more detailed documentation. As an example, from the post, where, in the existing documentation, is it mentioned about the frame rotation restrictions? Where is there a description of the features and intended uses for the various Tasks?

I'll look into the edit task.

Thanks!

Neil
