large format scanner

I am wondering if silverfast would be an advantage in scanning book pages with illustrations (hand drawn not photographs)onto a disc for the printer...that would be the old fashion printer of the book. Need large format scanner--17" X 12". Is Silverfast software compatable with Epson 836xl...I know it is with the next generation Epson printer (1640xl).
