IT8/Colorsync Profile/Nikon Ls40 Bug Now Identified & Fi

Postby bigtraveller » Thu Sep 05, 2002 10:55 pm

I have Mac G3, 576 RAM, OS9.2, Photoshop5.5 , Silverfast6 +IT8.

I have run calibration and stored the profile which is now in my colorsync folder as SF_T(Nikon)LS-40 but when I tried to select this under Scanner(Transparent) in section CMS/Defaults/Colorsync profiles(as advised by Ian Lyons site). The profile SF_T(Nikon)LS-40 did not appear in the list. I have set Scanner Internal to <NONE> to allow me to select a profile under under Scanner(Transparent). I have tried rebooting etc but the SF_T(Nikon)LS-40 just doesn't show up. I notice that not all colorsync profiles appear in the list. Are there several types of profile and the correct type has not been generated by silverfast? The profile NKLS4000LS40 does appear in the list for selection.

I am presuming that I should be aiming to have :
Scanner Internal to <Calibration> and
Scanner(Transparent) set to <SF_T(Nikon)LS-40 >.

Also is there printed documentation anywhere which gives instructions on the new facilities in Silverfast 6, as I have the 5.5 Printed manual.
Thank You
Louis Mc Cullagh
:(

Ps I have tried to get an answer from info & support at lasersoft via email for a week but NO REPLY!!!!!

10/9/02 This now reported as a bug by Lasersoft and is with the development team. Now fixed.

SilverFast and ColorSync Profiles

SilverFast and ColorSync Profiles

Dear Louis,

here is the set-up you should be using:

Under Color Management:
Scannner -> Internal: ColorSync

Under Profiles for ColorSync:
Scanner (Refl /Trans): your ICC-profile

Under Internal:
Set your "Color Space" such as Adobe RGB (the same you have set in Photoshop.

Thank you for your reply.

When you say my ICC profile, do you mean SF_T(Nikon)LS-40 or NKLS4000LS40?

My problem is that although SF_T(Nikon)LS-40 appears in the system folder color profiles, after I did the IT8 calibration, when I go to the option select a profile under Scanner(Transparent) SF_T(Nikon)LS-40 just doesn't show up.

You say set as follows
"Under Color Management:
Scannner -> Internal: ColorSync ".
When if ever do I set the option back to
"Under Color Management:
Scannner -> Internal: Calibration ".

I look forward to your reply as I am keen to use the scanner but there is little point if I have not got these basics set up correctly.

yours in anticipation

Selecting ColorSync Scanner Input Profiles

Postby President_LSI » Sat Sep 07, 2002 8:44 pm

Please make sure you have not selected "Calibration".

What is the item Calibration for?

This is only needed when there is no ColorSync (or ICM) available. Then "Calibration" activates SilverFast's own alternate calibration system.

When ColorSync is selected under "Color Management" all valid ICC-profiles such as SF_T(Nikon)LS-40 should show under "Profiles for ColorSync" Scanner(Transparency) under the profile pop-up.

Thanks again . You work really late!

"When ColorSync is selected under "Color Management" all valid ICC-profiles such as SF_T(Nikon)LS-40 should show under "Profiles for ColorSync" Scanner(Transparency) under the profile pop-up."

THIS is my problem SF_T(Nikon)LS-40 does not show up.

Why is the question. This is created by Silverfast 6 AND it is in the folder. Is there a bug when the software generated the profile.

In my original query I stated:

"I notice that not all colorsync profiles appear in the list.
Are there several types of profile and the correct type has not been generated by silverfast?
The profile NKLS4000LS40 does appear in the list for selection."

I can email the profile to Silverfast if you want to look at it. Your programmers should be able to say what properties a profile has to have to appear in the pop up window.

Thank you again

ColorSync profiles not visible in SilverFast

Postby President_LSI » Sun Sep 08, 2002 3:44 pm

Please email your ColorSync profile to our support manager:

Mr. Clovis Engelhardt at Clovis.Engelhardt@silverfast.com

along with a link to the forum comments!

The problem could be a fault in SilverFast generating the profile, but could also be something else!

What will the set-up be if you have:

Windows XP Prof.
Photoshop Elements
Nikon LS 30
SilverFast 6 and IT8
and calibrated the monitor and have a PhotoCal ICM profile.

Louis,

SF_T(Nikon)LS-40 just doesn't show up

If the above profile does not show up in the ColorSync folder it is possible that you did NOT click the "Export ICC" Profile button at the end of the calibration process. You should rerun the IT8 calibration sequence and remember to choose "Export ICC" after calibration is completed and immediately before closing the IT8 module.

Thanks Ian
The profile is actually in the folder. I checked and it is not only there but has a creation date and time identical to when I ran the calibration.
See the first message for explanation.

For Ian

Postby bigtraveller » Tue Sep 10, 2002 2:47 pm

Lasersoft have now said there is a bug stopping the SFT..... profile from being selected. When this is sorted I still am uncertain from the above advice and your own page when one would have the option

Under Color Management:
Scannner -> Internal: Calibration

and when should it be

Under Color Management:
Scannner -> Internal: ColorSync

I am using the photoshop plugin not Twain.

This would be really helpful.
Many Thanks
Louis Mc Cullagh
