iSRD - Trying to ignore slide tray objects

Postby kleinishere » Tue Sep 13, 2016 10:00 pm

Equipment: Epson V850
Software: Silverfast Ai Studio 8.8.0r5

Problem/Question:

I am trying to archive several hundred slides dating back to the 60s and afterwards.

On many of the older slides, the actual mounted slide extends beyond the traditional 35mm viewing area. Thus, the included Epson slide tray shows through in the form of 4 black corner cutouts. Seen below:

If I disable iSRD, then the 4 corners remain intact. If, however, I enable iSRD, the four corners become adjusted and no longer true to the original picture.

What is the best approach here?

I have tried
1) Using the mask tool. - Could not get this to work (added shapes, inverted mask - still no luck). Additionally, it would multiply the time it takes to scan each image even if successful. Would rather have the error-ed edges than spend this much time.

so, trying to think of two other options:

2) Set the slides on the scanner directly - Does this affect the iSRD information? Or have any other negative impact?
3) Is there a way to offset the iSRD formula to not pay attention to anything within 10-20% of the scanned frame's edges?

Thank you for your help.

Dear customer,

As those are part of the holder you can try putting the slides directly on the glass plane.

If you want to scan using the holder you can use the masking option in Ai Studio's iSRD dialog to create a mask that ignores the holder parts.

Kind regards,
Arne
