I need professional help

Postby michaelbbateman » Mon Dec 21, 2015 8:08 am

I need professional help. And not just because I have volunteered to archive thousands of my extended family's color slides, color negatives and black & white negatives, and trust me, I should schedule some 50 minute sessions for that, but I promise I am not looking for that kind of help here.

I have the latest version of Archive Suite, running on Mac OSX El Capitan and an Epson Perfection V800 and after some head banging I have all the software and hardware working and I don't have a particular question in mind. I am just looking to spend an hour in a web meeting with someone intimately familiar with the program and how to get the best images in the least amount of time and disk space, using my hardware and software to its most practical best.

I am a media professional with over twenty five years of experience supervising this kind of work on stuff you have seen. I am usually in the back chair with people like you pushing the buttons and I can appreciate good work but I am no colorist and I don't plan on becoming one. I just want someone to check my workflow and tell me, Michael, don't be a Bonehead:

Why do you want to scan at that resolution, it takes up three times the disk space and it only looks 2% better if that. Or,
Why in god's name are you using the workflow pilot, it's a joke! everybody uses the Job Manager! or...
Why don't you save your settings here so when you switch back to B&W neg you can just pull this up?!
Why are you going to the trouble of scanning in 64bit iHDR when you are not even using the Infrared dust removal feature of HDR Studio?! (how DO you use that feature by the way?! - see? I do have at least one specific question.)

You don't have to call me a Bonehead but it's totally okay. I feel like one because I can appreciate good work but I know what I don't know and I can pay you a decent hourly rate and I promise to be a good student and keep you in mind for larger jobs and I can go back to sitting in the back of the room looking smart and pretending to make important phone calls.

Thanks that sounds just right. I didn't feel right opening a ticket and asking for technical support when really what I need is training. Thanks very much.
