The only and the best way is SilverFast DC (light version) or HDR (full version).

I've recently bought a HP4400C too - I currently use a SilverFast on a PIE PF1800 film scanner. I bought this scanner because the details about the scanner say it is "True 48-bit scanning". The software provided with the scanner does not support exporting of 48-bit images, it probably does do image adjustments in 48-bit before converting to 24 bit.
Does anyone know the facts about this scanner, it is physically capable of exporting 48-bit, is there any software I can use other than the software that came with the scanner. I just hope that I have not been ripped off - especially since I knew the difference between internal bitness and external bitness. My logic at the time was if "True 48-bit" does not mean exporting 48-bit then what does it mean.
Thanks - Mark

Mark,
it seems. that you are using the SE version of SilverFast for the PF1800. SE versions do not save the images in 48-bit, but the adjustments (like gradation curve) are still made in the scanners internal bit depth. If you would like to scan 48-bit files, you will need the Ai version of SilverFast. Try the demo.
Eric.

Sorry about the confusion, I was specifically asking about the HP 4400C - wanting to know of the capabilities of the hardware and of any software that can make use of 48-bit output (if available).
Anyway, I do have the AI version of Silverfast for the PF1800 which can save all 36-bits, and am happy with it - though looking forwards to the GANE(TM) feature.
