Help with scanning printers litho negs

Postby joeseafuzz » Thu Oct 26, 2006 4:22 pm

I am trying to scan litho negs on a Mirage II. Using 1 bit lineart and resolution as high as 4800 I am still getting jagged edges on type and having problems with the automatic correction and exposure. Any suggestions for a profile or proceedure for this? The negs have type and halftones with dots that need to be held. I am using Silverfast SE

Scanning Line Art Film at high Resolution

Scanning Line Art Film at high Resolution

Dear User,

scanning high res line art with such a scanner is quite a challenge. First you need to upgrade to SilverFast Ai or Ai Studio.
It is not possible to scan a lith film with 1 bit line art. You need to scan the film in greyscale high res, so you have precise control over threshold and contrast and USM.

Here is the system to scan lith film:

1. In SF Ai under options set the preview to high res preview (8x)
2. Check critcal areas in zoom for best dot capture and blackness (use set back with darkest point)
3. Check and set USM in USM-Preview for best dot edge sharpness
4. run the scan

SF SE is not made for such high level tasks but SF Ai can do the job!

Please let me know, how you can cope with the task!

best regards
