Help with scanning Glass Slides

Postby mjfoster01 » Tue Sep 21, 2010 1:59 am

Hello--
I am new to scanning technology and may be in over my head on a family project. My great-grandfather was a photographer who captured images on Glass Lantern Slides. I have about 300 glass slides of images taken around 1910 of NYC streets, Family outings, etc., and most of the slides are in beautiful condition. (Most are positive images though some are negative images.)

I purchased an Epson Perfection V750 Pro which came bundled with Silverfast Ai and PhotoShop Express. My thought was to scan the images so I can reproduce them into beautiful prints. Alas, as I am sure you know, it is not that easy.

I've tried Reflective, Transparency, 48 Bit Color HDR, .... yikes. I am sure it is possible to scan these because I had several scanned professionally and they reproduced absolutely beautifully. I must be doing something very basic that is incorrect.

Can you offer any direction or guidance? I would be very grateful.

Kind regards,
Mark Foster

Dear Mark,

Since we do not have any glass negatives or slides, we do not have much experience or information about this kind of process.
However this topic has been addressed in another thread, perhaps you might find useful tips there.

You can find the other thread at:
