I'm getting a grid pattern in the sky of some of my scans.
Any idea what I need to adjust to avoid this showing up in my scans?
I'm scanning with a CanoScan 8400F flat bed scanner with the film in a film holder.
Thanks

Re: Grid showing up in scan
Dear Suspire,
The pattern is very strange indeed. An it's not easy to determine what might be causing it. Are you using the latest SilverFast version? which SilverFast product are you using to scan the pictures?
Have you tried using Canon Scan to check if the problem also appears there?
You might also want to try deleting the all scanning frames (using the trash can button located at the left side of the preview window) and then making a new prescan.
Kind regards

I'm using Silverfast Ai - 6.6.2r2a
I can't get a duplicate pattern with the Canon scan software.
I'm getting the same results after I trash the scan and re-prescan but only on some pieces of film, not all of them.

Dear Suspire,
Are you using automatic frame finding tool?
Do you scan in 24 bits mode or 48 bits HDR mode and post process later?
Cheers

Re: Grid showing up in scan
I did use the automatic frame finding tool but adjusted it to get the edges/size correct. Scan Type: 48->24 Bit Color, Filter: Auto Sharpen and it was post processed after scan in Photoshops RAW converter.

Re: Grid showing up in scan
Dear Suspire,
To determine what the problem might be, please delete all frames using the trash can button (as I explained before). Then create an new frame (straight without fine adjusting it) and deactivate the Auto Sharpen filter, make sure the frame is slightly larger than your picture so you can adjust it in edition, then perform the scan. After that, activate the Auto-Sharpen filter and perform a second scan. A third scan will be done rotating the scan frame (fine rotation) to meet the angle of your picture.
Please check if the problem is present in all them, if not, which of the pictures do have the problem?
Cheers

Re: Grid showing up in scan
I have started getting this pattern also scanning 8x10 B&W negatives on an Epson V750. I have just determined it is not just in the sky. I found it in a slot canyon image I had just finished working on when I duplicated a channel for sharpening purposes. I did update to 6.6.2r2 recently.

Re: Grid showing up in scan
Hi guys,
Sorry for being a bit late, I want you to reset SilverFast to the factory settings first.
To do this please close SilverFast completely, as well as the SilverFast Launcher.
Now, in finder navigate to the following directory
Mac/users/Your user name/Library/Preferences
And delete the folder called LaserSoft Imaging.
After deleting the folder please start SilverFast again and check if the problem is gone.
Cheers

Re: Grid showing up in scan
Dear Silverfast...I think that you have a problem here..please see a posting below that I made over a year ago and have never really been able to resolve as the answers you gave me were not conclusive. Well it seems that other people are having the same problem and I noticed that other people before me were having the same problem..please can you investigate in order to resolve the problem. I am not able to scan in HDR with my Tango because I get the dreaded grid...
Hi...I have been using your product now for about a year with my Tango. A while ago I raised an issue that I was having with you. In HDR mode I scanned my negatives in the 'positive' setting thus giving me a negative image. When I converted to a positive in HDR everything looked great. The colours were perfect and I was very happy. Then I discovered a strange marking in the shape of a 'Grid' that ran faintly through the image. Horizontal and vertical lines making perfect squares..So I rescanned as a 'negative' thus giving me a positive and found that the grid was not present. Then I scanned the same neg 'normally' and again there was no grid. This only happens (every time) in HDR mode scanning a Negative as a positive. I would really like to use my software in HDR so it would be good to get a solution. When this happened before you were going to investigate but I never heard back. I am sure that this is not a scanner problem but is a glitch within the software. ..thanks...Paul
