Green tint when scanning greyscale/sepia images

Postby lukefretwell » Tue Jun 08, 2010 9:54 pm

Hi there,

After scanning several greyscale/sepia images they appear to have a green tint to them which is very noticeable. This occurs even after I've calibrated the scanner using the IT8 target. Do you have any ideas why this is happening to these scans? Colour photos don't seem to be that badly affected by it. I'm using SilverFast Ai IT8 with an Epson Perfection V700 on a PC.

Thanks,
Luke.

Dear Luke,

Most likely the application you are using as a default viewer in your computer is not capable of displaying the colors correctly. Please make sure you use an application that uses color management and allows you control over it. You can then check if the configuration is the same as in SilverFast.

Hi there,

The images appear green on two separate computers, both of which are properly calibrated and also on my PlayStation 3. They also appear to have a green tint when printed. It's almost as if there is too much blue in the image and not enough red. When printing a scan of the calibration target this is shown by the darkest blue being much more vibrant and not as dark as on the actual target.

Is there a setting I need to change? I've tried the 'Image Types', but is there a way of getting relatively accurate scans on just one setting? I've got hundreds of photos to scan, so having one setting would be ideal - the colours that I'm getting now are not accurate at all - despite having calibrated the scanner with the IT8 target.

Thanks,
Luke.

Hi there,

After adjusting several settings within SilverFast and scanning several colour photos, including polaroids, these scans are very accurate, with good colour reproduction. However, the sepia/black and white scans still have the green tint. Could it be the actual photographic paper itself which the scanner light is reacting with to give them this green tint?

Thanks,
Luke.

It is a possibility, you should try scanning the monochromes in greyscale mode and then give the tint you wish to have at the end.
