colour scanned looks different to saved image
colour scanned looks different to saved image
Help!!! We have just started using silver fast and find that the final image that is scanned looks very different to the colour saved in pictures it is generally darker and bluer, I have tried adjusting the graduation but it seems like the overall colour is very different in the final save image.

Re: colour scanned looks different to saved image
Hello,
I am running Silverfast 8.8 SE Plus with a Plustek Opticfilm 7600i in a Mac running OS 10.8, and am having similar problems. The scan as displayed in Silverfast looks perfect, but the saved file is at least 3 stops darker. The demo version did this also, but I assumed like the watermarks this issue was because it was the demo. Was this an incorrect assumption and the software is flawed? It doesn't appear to do as often in print mode, but basically every time in archive mode. Understandably, I bought this software to do archive quality scans not print quality. Please advise how to correct this problem.
Thank you very much!
Mark Lucas

Re: colour scanned looks different to saved image
Dear Mr Lucas,
Please check if you maybe have selected one of the HDRi RAW output formats.
These are archive formats which are saved unchanged for later processing in SilverFast HDR Studio.
They look very dark because they are stored at the original gamma of 1.0.
Try using 48->24 for the output bit depth.
Kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn.

Same problem; using OSX 10.11.2 with Plustek 8200i. Within Silverfish 8.8.0r1 the image looks great; after exporting to TIFF or JPG the image gets a purple hue.
I have already tried the reset options.

Re: colour scanned looks different to saved image
Dear customer,
Have you tried different resolutions?
The preview uses a lower resolution than the final scan.
Maybe the issue is depending on the scan resolution.
Are you using the normal OS X image viewer?
Kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn.

Re: colour scanned looks different to saved image
I'm a bit further troubleshooting this issue.
When I enable in Preferences:
-Multi-Exposure preview
-Always IR Prescan 1:1
The colors stay OK when exporting. What has changes is that when pressing "PreScan" the software takes a complete (including ME and iSRD) scan. So when ik press "Scan" it directly outputs to file. Is this the correct behavior ? I would have expected that when pressing "Scan" there would be a rescan of sorts..
When I disable the preferences; pressing the "PreScan" results in a quick scan of the slide. When I make changes and then press "Scan" it starts the scanner, applies ME, iSRD and then the output to disk but with the colors not matching the "Scan".

Re: colour scanned looks different to saved image
Dear customer,
Yes that is correct, if the full resolution is already available the image is directly saved.
Your issue obviously depends on the resolution that is being used.
The scanner probably delivers different values at various resolution levels.
Kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn.

Re: colour scanned looks different to saved image
Dear Bee,
Have you checked the image in a plain image viewer like the systems own image viewing component, IrfanView or similar?
Make sure you have set the same colorspace in Lightroom and SilverFast.
Kind regards,
Arne
