blown out highlights (filmscans)

Postby Christian Schlager » Sun Sep 15, 2002 10:25 am

Im using Silverfast 5.2 for filmscans with my Nikon Coolscan III. The highligts of the scans are not as good as I would expect.
Looking at the histograms of the scans I see too much peeks in the right side and so the highlights seem to be blown out. I want to move the peek a little bit to the left but I am unable to to it for all my scans in an automatic way. Im am sure, I am doing something wrong.
What should I do to set the the programm for better scans and then to save these settings for general use?

Thank You for Your help
Christian

Christian,

You might be able to reduce the incidence of blown highlights by switching OFF the auto exposure feature using the button that looks like the SUN on the Special Function toolbar down the left side of the Preview window.

Alternativley you could reduce the analog Gain slightly. I can't recall the exact term used by LaserSoft (lamp brightness for the SS1200/SS4000), but the feature is available from Options>Special window and is three vertical LED's.
