Agfacolor reversal film from 1970-1976.

Postby TheAudioDoc » Wed Nov 10, 2010 10:54 pm

I have many boxes of Agfa slides processed from 1970 to about 1976. The film was processed and mounted by Agfa in Germany. The blue and white mounts say Agfacolor, Agfa-Gevaert, Germany. I'm assuming (but I don't really know) that this is not E6 film and is a CT-18 like film that uses the Ap-41 process. I disassembled one slide mount found no markings on the film edges.

Can I use my Minolta 5400 II's digital ICE when scanning? Or does this fall under the same "No ICE" recommendation as Kodachrome and silver based B&W?

Thanks,

Kelly

Dear Kelly

Since we do not exactly know what type of film it is you have, you might want to perform a test. In theory Agfa films should not be affected by the infrared correction, however there might be any film inside the holders (even Kodachrome).
My recommendation is to perform a test with three or four different pictures, make sure they have lots of details.

Kind regards

Thanks, Alejandro!

Its not Kodachrome! I disassembled a few more mounts over the weekend. The film is all Agfa CT18. No other markings. Can I use IR dust and scratch removal with Agfa CT18, which I understand is an Agfa process, not unlike Kodachrome. I can give it a try and see what happens, but I wondered what Lasersoft's recommendation was for this film. Since it is German film, and Lasersoft is a German company, I thought for sure someone there would be familiar with it! :D

Kelly

Dear Kelly,

I do not know exactly if the CT-18 development process could add some silver halide particles to the film which could prevent the correct exposure of infrared light from happening. The best thing would be to make some tests as suggested.

Cheers
