"Error: Scanner Not Ready" Arghhh

Postby reppert » Fri Jun 12, 2009 4:41 am

The pre-scan works fine. Then when I go to scan I get error message "An error occurred at the start of the scanning process. Scanner not ready."
I have tried everything I can think of: re-starting silverfast/scanner/computer, re-setting preference files, re-intalling silverfast. I've had this problem on and off since I started using silverfast, but usually one of the previously mentioned steps corrected the problem, if only temporarily. Nothing is working now, at all. I even emailed the technical department and they recommended steps like making sure the cables are secure, that the calibration area of the scanner is clear, that the scanner is hooked-up directly to a USB 2.0 port, and that there were no other imaging devices on the computer. Still nothing. I cannot scan and I have clients waiting for pictures. Can anyone help me??

Running Windows XP sp3
silverfast 6.or6.6
epson v-750

Thanks

Alejandro,

That's a great question. I just tried scanning with Epson Scan and it worked without a problem. Clearly, the scanner itself is not the issue. The silverfast software must be the problem then right? Or some sort of compatibility issue silverfast is having with my particular computer. How can I get to the bottom of this?

Thanks

Dear reppert,

This is clearly a separate case which must be handled by our support staff to try to determine the cause of your problem.

Reppert,
I too have a similar problem, but I'm running the latest Silverfast Ai with Vista 64 on a HP Pavilion Elite d5200t. I can do a prescan with no problem, but I get the same message that you do when I try to do a full scan. Lasersoft techs suggested reinstalling but that didn't help and make sure I am running in Administrator mode (for Vista 64) which didn't help either. They also said they were not able to recreate the problem.

My work-around is to do the prescan and make my image adjustments, then Quit out of Silverfast, then start it right back up from the start screen and go ahead with my full scan which then works fine. Lasersoft says that Silverfast is designed to remember what work you've done so that you can exit the software any time and come back when you want to.

Although I find it an annoyance to have to Quit and restart, it really only takes a second or two and then I can pick up right where I left off. This works for me until such time as I can figure out the problem (maybe a bios issue?)

Best Regards,
Greg Knipp
