I have an HP AIO C7180 at home (not supported by SF, I learned) and a Scanjet 8250 at work.
So I downloaded the SF version for the 8250 and started to test it at work.
Only to find that I can't control my home scanner anymore (the C7180 one).
I still can control it from another Mac in the same network, so I'm pretty sure it's due to the SilverFast install.
How can I get my home scanner back? Do I have to uninstall SF? If is that so, how can I do that in order to revert the situation?
TIA,
E.
SF for 8250 caused my mac to stop controlling other scanner
Re: SF for 8250 caused my mac to stop controlling other scanner
I don't know if I made myself clear: it's a notebook (MacBook Pro), from which I used to control both my home and work scanners (via the HP Device Manager).
Since I installed SilverFast for the Scanjet 8250 I can't control the home scanner (C7180) through HP Device Manager anymore.
Any help welcomed.

Nothing? Really?
I have uninstalled SilverFast, re-installed hp drivers and nothing! What the hell? I can control the printer functions from my Macbook, I can control everything from another Macbook, but can't control the scanner through my MacBook, the one where I installed SilverFast.
Great way to test a software...
And really no feedback from SilverFast staff?! This is a nightmare...

Dear edgarcn,
very strange behavior, do you have booth scanners connected at the same time ?
Cause this could sometimes cause confusion with OS X.
So you are even unable to use the seccond scanner when SilverFast is not launched ?
This could not be as we do not interfere with the scanner on hardware level.
You can easily verify if SilverFast has caused the problem by deleting all SilverFast files, if it hast everything should work again
but technically I doubt it.

Re: SF for 8250 caused my mac to stop controlling other scanner
Thank you for your answer. It's been a lonely place up here.
Ok: it's not that I have the two scanners tethered at the same time. One is at home, the other at work.
In my guess, maybe it has something to do with some kind of preference SF may have set to be the "default scanner". I used the shell script to uninstall SF but I noticed it still leaves a lot of trail in Library/Preferences. A whole folder! Maybe some of this pref files has set SF to be the preferred scanner so HP Device Manager can't control it anymore.
Is is possible? How do I fix it?

Dear edgarcn,
SilverFast accesses the scanner like any other software would. It will not block the scanner unless it is still running.
You can just delete that preference folder. In addition to the preference file it contains a logfile and some editable profile informations like the NegaFix settings.
kind regards
Arne Ketelhohn.
