I've just upgraded to Leopard, I couldn't wait any longer, every other app I use has been verified for Leopard, it was only Silverfast left. I thought I'd report my findings.
Silverfast Ai Studio 6.5.5r2 for Howtek 4500.
Firstly, the app does run, but there are problems :
1 - the app is *still* not a universal binary, and runs under rosetta.
2 - the settings seem to like getting corrupted. e.g.
when first installing, I set the scanner to scan positive transparencies. I went into the General panel, and the Options dialogs, to change the ICC settings. I specified the correct ICC profile for transparencies on the scanner. I did a pre-scan, and upon looking in the Options again, the ICC profile was greyed out for transparencies. I could not then make any changes to the settings, as the app claimed I had the wrong setting there of "2 pixels" in the ICC field. Now obviously, there is no such setting in there, so I think the checks are getting a bit confused.
Lastly, after having run for about an hour with Silverfast, the machine spontaneously shutdown, instantly. I cannot determine for sure if this was related to Silverfast, so I will have to do some more checking, but the machine had been running happily for hours beforehand.
Hoping for a Universal Binary (only 2 years late!) and Leopard compatibility soon please!
If you want me to test anything, you have only to ask.

Timeline?
Hi Sonny,
Could you please tell me if Leopard compatibility is indeed planned for the Howtek scanners? We would hate to wait around if it was not going to be updated and would have to look for another solution (which we would rather not - we quite like Silverfast!)...
If it is indeed planned to be updated, is possible could you please give an indication of a timeline for a compatibility update?
Look forward to your reply,
thank you kindly,
regards,
Tristan.

Dear Tristan,
unfortunately we have not planned developing Leopard support in our current six month schedule.
Like any other Scanner the Howtek Series is important to us.
But as many Scanners even from the same manufacturer have unique interface systems our developers have to prioritize their resources.
This leads to the point that we can not develop new scanner interface modules at the speed we wish we could.
Best regards
