SilverFastAi/iPhoto5 interface

Postby Larie Holmes » Thu Nov 24, 2005 8:01 pm

I'm new to SilverFastAi. Configuration consists of: Mac OSX 10.4.2, Nikon
CoolScan V, iPhoto5, SilverFastAi and Photoshop Elements 3.0. Getting
up to speed before Photoshop CS. iPhoto does not want to accept either
jpg or tif files stored in Pictures by SilverFast. The iPhoto message reads:
Unreadable files: 1. The following files can not be imported (they may
be an unrecognizable file type or the files may not contain valid data).

I hope this interface works. :)

Larie,

Are you able to view the images with a program other than iPhoto?

Hey Larie,

I came accross the following and wonder if it might help your situation as well.

LSI_Noack wrote:Dear AustrAlien

as Paint Shop Pro seems limited in its ability to understand TIFF format fully, and you do not seem to be also a user of the SilverFast HDR/DCPro products, you cannot make much use of the HiRePP feature of SilverFast.

Therefore you can safely disable HiRePP in the > Options dialogue on the > Special tab.

Scans performed with HiRePP disabled will not pose the same problem for Jasc's PSP.

SilverFast/iPhoto Interface

RAG,

Tried your suggestion about HiRePP. It was turned on. Turned it off
and tried again. This was the key. iPhoto now accepts SF jpg files.
iPhoto still does not like the SF tif format. I found a work around. Take
the tif file thru Photoshop and save as a tif file to the Desktop and then
move to iPhoto. Also, importing directly into Photoshop as a psd file and
then saving as a tif file to the Desktop works. iPhoto will accept this file.
Looks like I'm off and running, since the goal is to work with quality
images in a lossless file format.

Thank you,
Larie

Larie,

This is great news! The interesting thing to me is that it apparently did not solve the problem for AustrAlien. "Go figure!"

It is interesting that iPhoto can read the Photoshop TIFF files and not those from SilverFast but hey, all things are possible, right?
