SilverFast+GC+Word X+Photoscore Professional - remarks

Postby jogi » Sun May 11, 2003 11:29 pm

Prerequisites:

PB G4/800 DVI
1024 MB
OS X 10.2.6
The latest Versions of GraphicConverter, Word X, Photoscore Professional
Epson Perfection 3200 Photo (via Firewire)

1. Installation of the OS X drivers from the scanner software CD-ROM and the SilverFast SE was flawless.

2. The Scanner works with Silverfast SE without any problems.

3. The Scanner will not be recognized by TWAIN compatible apps like GraphicConverter and Photoscore Professional. It won't show up in Word X either. This is pretty annoying since it hinders workflow tremendously.

4. I have had some correspondance with Lemke soft of GraphicConverter about the issue and the programmer couldn't think of why TWAIN in this case would not work. I was told that he would try to support the scanner plugin. See also 5. to the TWAIN problem !

5. With looking at 4., the information politics of SilverFast must be regarded very confusing and contraproductive. On their webpage Silverfast Ai (which I am interested in) is shown as screenshot running in OS X. On the same page the link to OS X compatibility will list only Sliverfast HDR and Silverfast DC. Regarding TWAIN (see 4.) the company states in their own html-manual to Silverfast, that OS X users CANNOT scan from within other applications except for the different Photoshop variants !

I think that this honkytonky must end pretty fast. :-?

Dear Jogi.

SilverFast does not support TWAIN on OSX. Our download pages should signal this. Here is a link to the TWAIN plugin for the Epson 3200: https://www.silverfast.com/sf-download/328/ai6/en.html. Please see the text "Mac OS-X not supported".

Eric.
