Windows XP support: SilverFast (Ai and SE) ver. 5.5.x have not been tested entirely for Windows XP compatibility. However, some SilverFast variants were running fine on a RC1 version of that operating system. Our testing experience so far showed that SilverFast for normal SCSI connected devices is very likely to run fine on Windows XP, as no device drivers are needed & prime condition: Windows XP should recognize the SCSI adapter correctly. SilverFast for USB/FireWire devices will definitely not be compatible to Windows XP when the manufacturer scan software isn't working either.
Generally LaserSoft Imaging recommends to try a SilverFast demo software before you purchase SilverFast for Windows when you run Windows XP. Only buy it when the demo software proofed to run smoothly on Windows XP.

I upgraded to XP and then to the newest Silverfast version in November. I haven't had much work since then so hadn't really tested it out until this past week. I'm using a scsi Epson Expression 636. If I have my scanner on when I boot up in the morning all seems to work correctly. However, if I don't and I go into Device Manager and scan for new devices and add the scanner things get wierd. Silverfast opens in its default settings without showing the last thing scanned in the window and all the windows open (Densitometer and ScanPilot). I close and reset stuff and do a prescan and then scan and it only scans a .5" then comes up as if done. When I retry it says there's no scanner at all. Then I have to reset the scanner from the front panel. Then when I go to scan again I get the correct Silverfast interface (ie: the way it was the last time I used it properly, NOT the last time I just used it). Hope that's clear. It's quite frustrating. I don't know if a simple reinstall might help or if this is simply a matter of Siverfast not yet being XP compatable. But I thought I'd bring it up so you'd at least know.
