The worst thing is, that we would loose the functionality of dICE, since ASF has lincenced dICE to Nikon for use in the MAID modules.
Eric.
Thanks for the info and I believe other users should pay careful attention to it.
I agree that loosing dICE would be a hard pill to swallow for many Nikon users but I also read very well and LOT of disatisfied users ALWAYS throw the same stone a LaserSoft when SilverFast stops working at the same time as NikonScan - that stone is called v**s**n and we know that it doesn't support dICE. I'm not being critical of LaserSofts path nor am I saying users should choose v**s**n as an alternative - In effect I'm just making you aware of the hard reality that users rarely see their problem in the same light as the software/hardware vendors. The info you provided might actually help them understand "LaserSofts" problem better.
From a personal point of view loosing dICE would NOT cause me the least problem, but loosing the ability to use my scanner for 4/6 weeks everytime Apple or Microsoft chose the alter the OS did, especially when v**s**n handled these changes with virtually no problem. For me the choice between SilverFast and v**s**n is a no brainer I MUCH prefer SilverFast. This was one of the main reasons I gave up on Nikon.
I get a LOT of private emails from SilverFast users and in the main they have a lot of praise for it, but Nikon users seem to feel they get a raw deal, especially when Bill or Steve make a change to the OS that renders their scanner dead.
Again, no critism intended, just a few thoughts from someone who chose to "run up the white flag" with Nikon scanners.
