Silverfast 6.6.0r4c crashes \ photoshop cs3

Postby danielenazzari » Tue Dec 30, 2008 3:40 pm

I have a problem with the last version of silverfast. When I use this program in photoshop it starts fine. I can do a prescan and set all the options. Then, when I try to do the scan, I can see the progress bar of the work. At the end, when the scanning it's over, the image is not displayed in photoshop cs3. Both photoshop cs3 and silverfast crashes.
I have an intel mac pro with mac os x 10.5.6, photoshop cs3, silverfast 6.6.0r4c and a epson scanner (v750).
Is there a way to solve this problem?

Thank you, Daniele Nazzari

Dear Cusomter,

I think your problem will be solved by the following information, if not please get in touch with our support.

we discovered a conflict with Photoshop CS3 and SilverFast in combination with NIK Softwares Color Efex Pro.
This problem will result in crashing SilverFast and Photoshop after the endscan. We have investigated this behavior and we are working on a solution together with NIK. For the moment we can give you a workaround for this problem.
You would need to remove the NIK Color Efex Pro folder form your Photoshop CS3 Plugin directory. Just copy it somewhere else. Now you need to create an alias of the .plugin file and drag it back to the Photoshop CS3 plugin folder. Now everything should work again, we will keep you updated about the progress of this issue.

You were right, thank you a lot!

I've also made some tests and I figured out that the plugin wich creates problems, between the two plugins that come with the color efex pro's package, is the one called "SelectivePalette.plugin".
I hope that this information will be helpful.

Best regards, Daniele Nazzari.

Hi.

I have the same problem using photoshop cs3 and a Epson stylus photo 2100. I have not tested this solution yet but i will, or is that problem just associated to that scanner or does this have the same effect on my Epson stylus photo 2100?.

I have just a small question also to clear things out a bit:
I also have photoshop cs2 installed and it works great using silverfast and the epson, but as discribed here cs3 crashes when the scan is almost complete. Is it possible to have it working with both cs2 and cs3 at the same time? or might that be a problem?

Dear Grafit

You already have the answer to your question, the problem with SilverFast and CS3 is originated when having Plugins from NIK software installed in your photoshop index.
When you use the recommended solution the problem should be gone.
No, it is not a problem to start SilverFast from CS2 or CS3, what you can not do is try to start it at the same time from both applications, then you will have a conflict.
