SF Ai 6 crashes in windows XP home and PhotoShop CS

Configuration:
OS: Microsoft Windows XP Home (Version 5.1, Service Pack 1, Build 2600)
Photoshop Version: Photoshop CS
Scanner: Epson 4870 Perfection Photo
Scanner Driver: Latest scanner driver from Epson website
SF Ai: SilverFast Epson v6.2.1r2

Symptoms:
1. When I start the photoshop plugin it immediately terminates Photoshop CS.
2. When I start in standalone application mode windows shows there is
an exception occurred (0xc0000005 : access violation) and needs to
close the application.

After quite a bit of experimentation I found that the SilverFast access violation problem was being caused by my brother MFC 3100C Fax/Printer/Copier. As soon as I unplug it from the PC, I can start the SF. However, the Photoshop CS plugin still has the same problem. I need to find the combination for the CS plugin now.

However, it is clear that the SF Ai for Epson 4870 has problems coexisting with other peripherals. I would be glad to work with Lasersoft to resolve these issues. Please let me know what information you need from me.
