This problem is obviously not Silverfast-related, as it happens, before Silverfast was started, but maybe someone can help:
When the scanner Reflecta DigitDia 4000 (with up-to-date firmware), which is connected through Firewire and as the only firewire device on the PC, is turned on at the same time as the computer, the scanner is not found by Silverfast. That is because it does not appear in the device manager; the device manager's refresh function does not help.
When I turn on the scanner after the computer is booted, Windows finds the scanner as soon the scanner is turned on. However, very often a few seconds later, the scanner disappears from the device manager, and if I start Silverfast now, the same problem as above would occur.
I have to turn off an on the scanner and then, the scanner appears in the device manager again and can be operated successfully. With this second try, no more disconnection happens.

Dear Eckart
if the scanner isn't detected by Windows, SilverFast won't be able to do so.
However, you might want to update your drivers (using the German download on Reflecta's website for Windows (CyberView X-MS v1.16)).
There is an even newer version 1.17 available in English for the PIE Powerslide 3600 (Digitdia 3600 equivalent), although no 4000 model had been published by Pacific Image Electronics up to now. You still might want to try the latest Cyberview driver from PIE's website (www.scanace.com), if anything else fails.
Best regards
