Scan aborted, but no error messages

Postby ramstar_art » Wed Mar 17, 2004 9:30 pm

I've recently upgraded to Panther 10.3.2 and Photoshop CS. I'm running a Umax PowerLook 2100XL with an adaptec 2906 scsi card.

After finally getting everything up and running, I'm getting partial scans from SilverFast SE 6. Sometimes the PS plugin will do only a partial prescan. Then it will do a full prescan, but crap out part way through the scan.

I'm looking into the Belkin Firewire/SCSI adapter, but this would not be the problem would it?

Thanks for any help.

Dear ramstar_art.

Frankly this very much sounds like a SCSI timing problem. Please switch the SCSI-ID and see if it will improve. Also make sure termination is on.

We have actually tested the scanner with the Belkin and made a very positive experience.

Kind regards.

After watching the scanner operate in fits and starts for most of the afternoon, it looks like the scanner often doesn't know where it is in the scanning process.

Often it will scan to the bottom of the artwork and then begin to back up only to stop and go forward a bit before stopping. It rarely resets the scan head to the top of the scanner.

This probably points more to the scsi timing issue.
