Past File Names Interfering With Saving Files

I am using Silverfast 6 as the Photoshop 7 Plugin on mac 9.2.2. First, Silverfast is great, I'm getting great scans on my Epson 1680. Lately, after doing the scan and saving it in Photoshop, I am getting the title of a past scan, named in Silverfast before the scan, and am unable to delete that name, even if I delete it in Silverfast or the Save As dialog box in Photoshop. For sure, the name does appear to be deleted in both places, but it still shows up in the name of the file, in addition to what I have just entered in the dialog. Just today, two past names of files were being added to the current scan name. As I said, even if I delete the past name in Silverfast and Photoshop it is still there, even though I can't see it until the save as process is finished. Also this additional text (now hidden) is preventing me from typing the full name of the new file and get the dreaded "out of space" beep from Photoshop, even though it looks like I have a lot of space left. I must go to the finder and delete the incorrect past name or names. I can't see any place to delete corrupt Silverfast preferences and would not want to do that if it meant losing many saved Curves and H/S files.

Just to be sure that I understand you correctly:
You've entered a name for the scan in the name field in SilverFast (above the Original, Scale and Ouput values) and scanned to Photoshop (not directly into a file). Afterwards you saved the file in Photoshop. Now it happens, that when you delete the entered name in SilverFast, scan again to Photoshop and save the file, the file will be named different from the name you entered in the "Save as" dialog from Photoshop, but will have the old name entered in SilverFast (though deleted) as an addition. Is this correct?
To get new prefs without loosing your saved curves etc. you can move the prefs (inside the Prefs folder in the SilverFast folder) to a different location and start SilverFast. It will generate new prefs and you can import saved curves etc. via the popups in the corresponding dialogs (there's an "Import" entry where you choose your old preference file).
