Embedded Profile Mismatch confusion

After setting Silverfast's 5.5 CMS "Profiles for ColorSync.> Internal settings to Adobe RBG(1998) and checking the "embed ICC profile" box plus setting PS6 Color settings to the same Adobe RGB(1998) working space I still get an "Embedded Profile Mismatch" warning in PS6 after opening the scanned image, though the warning shows that embedded as well as working space are identical. I followed Ian Lyon's tutorial on his "Color Management and Adobe PS6" so all the settings are basically identical.
Any clues for my confusion?

This can happen if there is more than one version of a profile on your system with the same name (happens often on the Mac) but the actual profile contents are different. Sometimes a user can alter a profile without realising and again a d ifference can arise. Do a search of the hard disk for "Adobe RGB (1998)" and check their modification date. The correct profile will show 12 August 2000.

Dear Ian,
Thank you for the quick reply.
My search for the Adobe RGB 1998 file (by the way I'm using a PC) brought up a total of 162 hits. I guess I haven't uninstalled all my older PS versions.
However I found the file in ProgramsCommon filesAdobeColorProfilesRecommended thanks to the creation date you mentioned.
Unfortunately I have no clue of how to activate this profile and how to discard the old one.

Make a copy of it and then paste this copy into the windows/system/color folder. You may get a warning about overwriting a file don't worry as the one from the Adobe recommended directory is the correct version.

It makes me wondering if the same ICC profile (Adobe RGB 1998) with two different creation dates actually causes different output on monitor and printer?!

The date is NOT a date problem. It is likely that somehow, either you or somoene else has accidendly altered the version that was present in the windows/system/color folder. Hence a new date. It wouldn't be the first and it certainly won't be the last time that it's happened.

I'am not sure if it is Adobe PS 6.01 update, or windows XP, but my AdobeRGB1998.icc profiles are dated; 2-2-2001.
I didn't change them myself in anyway. Do you think there is any difference, between the files dated 12-8-2000, and 2-2-2001?

I have PS6.01 installed on Mac and PC (win 98,me and 2K) I do not have any other version than 2 August 2000. So far as I am aware PS 6.01 update did not change the profiles! You might want to check if it was due to some other software such as nikonScan. In any case the problem is that all profiles with a different date are broken just that if you see and odd one then it is likely to be broken.
