Ai 6.2 won't scan film on with Epson 4870 ???

Postby REllin » Thu Nov 11, 2004 6:53 pm

I have just gotten Ai 6.2, and it works fine for reflective scans. But when I try to scan film (35MM) with the Digital Ice function enabled the scanner crashes to the desktop, and leaves the scanner hung-up (with the blue light on the lid remaining lit). I have to power off the scanner to reset it.

I have XP Pro (SP2), 2 GB RAM, 700GB of HD space. The problem occurs wether I launch Ai from the desktop, or I launch the plug-in via Photoshop CS.

Someone PLEASE help.

BTW, I also have a Nikon LS5000 ED hooked up, (but powered off). 'm trying to use the 4870 to scan some old 126 film.

Updat to my Post

Postby REllin » Thu Nov 11, 2004 8:05 pm

Since my initial post I've discovered the following:

1) During the Ai film scan the progress box says "digial ICE (RGB HiRez)"; when the progress bar has gone all the way across ...Ai crashed to the desktop as described in my initial post.

2) The Epson Scan software works fine for film, but the fixed-size frames it uses don't align well with the 126 negs Im trying to scan.

3) In frustration, I uninstalled Ai (again ...sigh), and reinstalled SE. To my utter amazement ...it worked !?!?!?!

4) The step after the one that hung up Ai is "digital ICS (IR HiRez)"

It would appear the there's something screwy going on with Ai.

Anyone venture a guess at what's causing this wierd behavior by Ai?

Another update to my previous post(s)

Postby REllin » Fri Nov 12, 2004 4:56 pm

Well, since my last post (which updated my initial post ...is this a blog? 8) ) I have made another discovery.

1) I uninstalled SE, and reinstalled my original Ai CD (v. 6.2.0r6) and ...drum roll please... everything works!

Conclusion: The current release I D/L'd from LaserSoft (6.2.3r6?) has something broken in it related to the Digital Ice functionality.

The current release will only crash if Digital Ice is enabled. It works with SRD either switched on or off. This seems to point directly at the Digital Ice software implementation.

Anyone have any other thoughts? Or am I just blogging here?

HEY LaserSoft ...you listening??[/code]
