6.0 Crashes XP System

I installed 6.0 today after removing 5.5. I have now done three clean remove/install cycles, and am still having a hard system crash from Silverfast.

System: XP Professional, SS120, Photoshop 6, Silverast 6.0 Twain.

Symptom: Installed fine. SF launches fine from Twain menu. When film carrier is loaded, SF hangs. Unfortunately, it hangs so hard that the Task Manager cannot kill it. It only shows Not Responding and the hourglass.
