Kodak Vericolor II

Postby Leapin' Lizard » Mon May 11, 2009 4:31 am

I'm a relatively new SilverFast user and over the years have accumulated a portfolio of negatives that I shot with a Hassleblad on Kodak Vericolor II Professional Type S film, ISO 125, that I would like to scan on my Epson V750. I wonder if there is or has been a NegaFix profile for this film since it is no longer in production. If not, what would be the film on the current profile list that would be closest to it from which I could make my own profile. Thanks - Leapin' Lizard

Dear Leapin' Lizard

Doing some online research (google) I came across two PDF documents with information about "Kodak Vericolor" (II and III) you can find them here:

http://tinyurl.com/o5fvj2

and here:

http://tinyurl.com/qmyffh (this will lead you to Kodak's database)

Since Kodak does not appear to have information about the Vericolor II but only III and the one PDF about Vericolor II does not display any information about sensitometric curves, I am not able to provide you with an exact equivalent for your filmtype.
However if you look carefully at the very beginning of the PDF document for Vericolor III available at Kodak's website, there is a notice informing that the film has been discontinued and suggests Kodak Portra 160 NC as a replacement.

I am speculating here but since "next model" emulsions are regularly improvements of the previous one (tonal range, color reproduction, etc), you might want to use the NegaFix profile for Kodak Portra 160 NC as a starting point to create a color curve for your film profile.

Alejandro -

Thanks for the tip. I'll start with Portra and see what happens. I'm inclined to think it will be closer to an Ektar profile whenever one is released. Again - thanks.
