How to get better results with NegaFix profiles

How to get better results with NegaFix profiles

In order to get much more consistent and better results with different negative films with NegaFix profiles please observe the following:

Although we have made precise NegaFix profiles, the process is sometimes thrown off by the variations caused by noise or other random information contained in the film scanning process. In order to get rid of those "offsets" use the Auto-Tolerance slider in the NegaFix Expert dialog.

1. Open the NegaFix Expert Dialog

?negafix_fix1a

2. Click on "Expansion"

3. Move the Auto-Tolerance slider to the right

You can see, how the image becomes more neutral now!

Thank you for the information. Is this an upgrade? Do you have a facility to register to get emails automatically on this type of subject. I recall that previously I could never find information on new updates as the site was not kept up to date.

NegaFix Tolerance Slider

Postby President_LSI » Fri May 16, 2003 1:10 pm

NegaFix Tolerance Slider

This is just a settings recommendation. NegaFix Expert dialog is there from SilverFast Ai 5.5 on. It is not contained in SF SE versions. Future versions will have the NegaFix tolerance slider (also SE internally) set to the right by default.

Info on latest releases can be always found here:

Thanks for that tip.

Now I'm hoping that you or someone (anyone) from Lasersoft will address my recent HDR update problem.

Irritatingly wrong

Postby bigtraveller » Sat May 17, 2003 12:39 am

I followed the above advice and under history for Nikon/mac it gave latest version as Ai 6.0.2r08(Mac)
I went to download (mac photoshop plugin) and got
6.0.2r20.

THERE is NOT a note on what the latest upgrade is and what it does!!!

Development History

Postby LSI_Ingraham » Tue May 20, 2003 4:31 pm

Dear Bigtraveller,

The development history is now up to date.

To find out the changes between Mac 6.0.2r08 and r20 in the development history, you need to look at the changes posted specifically for Nikon as well as the All SF variants (at the top of the development history). There can be changes to other products (e.g. HDR) which increments the revision number.

So in your specific case, these are the changes from r08 to r20:

All SF Variants

Ai/SE 6.0.2r16(Mac): SRD: the masks applied in the preview of large images (e.g. 100Mb) led to strange effects when a flip/rotation was done, fixed.

Ai/SE 6.0.2r16(Mac)/6.0.1r47(Win): The output of Lab data in JPEG format is not supported anymore.

Ai/SE 6.0.2r15(Mac)/6.0.1r47(Win): When the scan frame unit is "Pixel" and the "lock pixels" lock is closed, the edit fields for the output size are now disabled.

Ai/SE 6.0.2r14(Mac): The default value for the Q factor is now set to 1.5 (except Praktika/DC/HDR).

Ai/SE 6.0.2r12(Mac): JobManager/Batch: crash when IT8 calibration is on and output is Lab or CMYK, fixed.

Nikon

Ai/SE 6.0.2r07(Win): NegaFix: new profiles were added.

Ai/SE 6.0.2r16(Mac): LS4500: prescan works again, fixed.

Ai 6.0.2r08(Mac): LS8000 & film holder FH869: crash when scanning the full scan area for 6x6 and 6x9 formats, fixed.

I hope this helps.

Best Regards,

John Ingraham
