Gradation Curves smoothing anomaly

Postby Gregory C » Thu Sep 05, 2002 6:11 pm

I have decided to begin building my own film profiles. The profiles accompanying SilverFast do not seem to be very accurate, at least for the film I work with.

While playing with the gradation curves in Negafix Profile Expert mode, I found the following anomaly.

While moving the middle of the curve to the left side, the left side of the curve can warp rather wildly. The following is a typical example of this warping effect.

To remove the warp, I clicked on the Smooth button. The first click produced this effect:

Nice 'smoothing' :P

Further clicks on the smooth button did actually smooth the curve though. After approximately 10 clicks, the curve approached a reasonable shape. It's just the first click that hurts

Gregory

Yes, there is room for further improvement by limiting certain extreme reactions to the movements of curve points!
