And the support just answered once with an advice, that didn`t help at all.But I never got a second mail, after I told them, that it still didn`t work. And in this forum I posted about seven times in order to get an answer from lasersoft. But they didn`t even answer once.Great!Silverfast could really be an incredible software, since its features are unbeatable. But the bugs are unbeatable, too.Since I bought SF 5.0,what costed 1000 bucks,I guess I downloaded about ten updates, one of them worked nearly perfectely(5.5.0r06),all the others had real major bugs.50 % of time I?m scanning,50% I?m trying to get SF working. Some of the bugs are that obvious, that I`m wondering, how a programmer can miss them, for example a histogramm, that`s not showing up at all or the indication of a hardware resolution, that`s simply totally wrong.I could easily add ten other examples. And please, don`t blame me for distributing "negative feelings".Finally,I just have them.

I just purchased Epson's perfection 2450 scanner which came bundled with SilverFast version 5.50r07. I am having the same problems trying to scan color negagtives. I am running the software from Photoshop v 6.0.1, using the import command. Every time I select Transparency and then Negative I get the NegaFix dialog box. As long as this box is open the preview remains white, even though I have Auto Preview selected. And no matter what I select as a film choice, as soon as I close out of the NegaFix box, the option reverts back to Positive in General Control window. Like everyone else I have no problem scanning from the Epson Twain plugin in Photoshop. I am running the software on a Mac using OS 9.2.1

SilverFast stores preview data for the different scan modes. When you change modes, it hides the preview from the previous.

When you choose Transparency -> Negative, the preview goes blank. You must re-prescan in order to see an image. The Auto-Preview is referring to auto-preview of negative correction from the profiles. You still need to have an image to preview with.

Closing the NegaFix window sends you back to positive mode... this is expected. If you close the negative dialog, the software assumes you don't want to scan in negative.

Hi Nik and the other; I have Silverfast 5.5.x (the last one just got from the web last week) with NegFix, running on a Mac with OS 9.2.2, 1gb of ram and a Microtek 8700 scanner; it seams that the new version does NOT keep the settings changes!!! My negative scans become very dark when I open them in Photoshop and if I change the Silverfast curve, not changes occur to the output. Why is that??? I am pretty sure that earlier versions of it did not have this glintch! Please help! Andrea

I can not scan negatives with SF either. I can not get the software to turn on the top lamp to shine thru the negatives. The software only wants to scan in reflective mode, which gives a burned out area where the image should be.

I had not read page 2 when I wrote the above post. I have gotten the software to stay in transparency 'mode' while 'Negative' shows in the Neg/Pos box. I am getting an image.
