All files were scanned in the 64 Bit HDRi format, and I can confirm the scanner did an infrared pass. In order to establish whether the channel is being saved or not in Ai Studio, I have created another test file. I took a screenshot during the scan so you can see the options I selected and that the scanner is actually performing the infrared pass. Please let me know if you see an IR channel or not. Is there another option I must select to ensure that the IR scan is embedded?

Hi CA

We are working on the analysis of these files with our programmers to see where the issue lies and what can be done to correct these.

Cheers

Just confirming the earlier stated issues re HDRi and iSRD gamma and defect removal. With HDRi images created using a Nikon LS9000 with positive films, OS X 10.6.8, Silverfast 6.6 using the nonM driver for a Nikon LS9000:
- render is dark if iSRD is activated
- defect marking highlights most of the image - it looks like the grain of the film is being identified as a defect.
- using the current r3 Beta, the 1:1 preview shows the correct (brighter) gamma as does the navigator (in the r2 Beta the navigator previewed the image as it would render - too dark)
- the same files render with almost flawless defect removal when processed in Silverfast HDR Studio 6.6
- negatives do not have the gamma issue, but they do share the iSRD problem with the whole image being peppered with defects even though the original had minimal to no scratches or dust.

Some further testing on the iSRD and gamma issue with Positive film scans.
I have uploaded an HRDi scan that exhibits the issue on HDR Studio 8r3 running on 10.7.2 Lion:

along with two rendered samples, one with the correct gamma, iSRD off:

and one with the incorrect gamma (dark), iSRD on:

Similar to the other postings in this thread, while attempting to post process 64 Bit HDRi files created under Silverfast 8.0 HDR (SF-8.0.1r3(HDR)_x64.exe), enabling iSRD causes extremely dark output files. The rendering on the screen, however, shows normal tone, with appropriate diminution of dust and scratches.

The original files were created in Silverfast 8.0 Ai Studio (SF-8.0.1r2(Nikon)_x64.exe) from Kodachrome 35MM slides. The scanner is a Nikon 5000 ED.

Has there been any change in the status of this problem?

In addition, do you need me to upload any of my files for testing purposes or do you need any further information?

Hi there,

there is an update to the beta version where this problem should be corrected. It would be nice if you can check whether this problem is present in the newest version or not.

Cheers

I'm having a problem where applying iSRD in post-processing introduces significant artifacts, black bars at 45 degree angles that completely mar the image, and no scratches are removed. I only have this problem when scanning in 1940s era BW negatives (1 3/4 inch square) of unknown manufacture. I'm attaching a screen shot of a corrupted image after trying to apply iSRD with Silverfast HDR, from a 64 bit HDRi tiff created with Silverfast 8 Ai Studio..
Scanner: PlusTek 7600i with Silverfast 8.0.1r5 Ai Studio
Imaging software: Silverfast 8.0.1r5 HDR Studio Beta
Computer: iMac 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5, Mac OS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard)

This kind of artefacts are the result of silver halide particles of the film emulsion (a physical property of most B&W films as well as Kodachrome) over the infrared light.
The infrared channel of such images does not have a map of dust of scratches exclusively but it contains all image details instead, making impossible to tell image from dust or scratch, and producing this kind of artifacts.

In such cases no iSRD can be applied.

I have tested r5 on Lion and the gamma issue with HDRi positive images is fixed. :D
Can anyone else confirm this?
Thanks-you,
Ian.

I believe you are right. I have tested this and the problem could not be reproduced with r5 (at least on my computer).

Hi,

Starting with revision 7 of the HDR Studio 8 beta releases the software does not recognize the IR channel of my 64 bit HDRi negative scans generated with SF 6.6.X (i. e. it offers only SRD but not iSRD). In addition, HDR Studio 8 beta does not recognize these files as negative scans - even if I select "Negetive" beforehand the software switches back to "Positive" while opening the file. Resetting the software and deleting the preference file (via the Service Dialog) did not solve the problem. In contrast, iSRD worked fine with these files in HDR Studio 8 beta revision 6 and of course HDR Studio 6.6. The problem appears to be restricted to files generate with SF 6.6 since negative scans generated with Silverfast 8 are correctly recognized by HDR Studio 8 (revision 9).

The 64 Bit HDRi files tested were generated by SF 6.6.x (mostly 6.6.2r4) or SF 8.0.0 r1 using a Nikon LS 50 ED on Mac OS 10.6.8 and are about 170 MB in size.

Is there any possibility to see the technical specs of an SF-generated file in HDR Studio 8? Pressing the Info button does not reveal wether or not the file contains an IR channel or information about the color depth. The information given in the Info window (DPI, HDR Mode, Depth) simply reflects the settings for the output file.

Best regards

gmk

Appreciate your contribution. This issues have been reported and will most likely be corrected in future versions of HDR Studio beta.

No, it is not possible to see this information separately, those are tags not included in the tiff standard. They might be included in future versions but this is not for sure.
