Hello,
I've been playing with HDR Studio 8 r12 and everything seems to work fine except b&w negatives. After opening a file in in HDR studio 8, instead of b&w it is all red. Please see the sample below. So it's either a glitch in the software which would be surprising to me since I haven't found anyone else in this forum who would experience a similar outcome or I'm doing something terribly wrong. If I open the exact HDR file in photoshop it comes out the way it should - b&w negative.
Only converting it to 16bit grayscale in HDR studio will make it b&w but that's what I'd like to do. I'd like to keep the file in the 48bit format.
Can anyone please offer some advice?
I scan the negatives in Silverfast 8.0.1 with my Plustek OpticFilm 7600i scanner.
The format of choice is Negative, 48bit HDR, 4200dpi saved as TIFF.

Have you tried resetting SilverFast HDR through the service dialog?
Please also install the latest HDR version from our website.
I assume you got a setting wrong.
But telling which one is difficult as several tools could do this (Gradation, Global and selective color correction, Color filter in the option's special tab, etc.).
If Photoshop displays the file B&W I would assume it is scanned correctly.
The file itself is a color image so Photoshop would show any colorcast.
kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn.

Re: HDR Studio 8.0.1r12 negatives come out all red
I think I was able to correct it and so far it works fine.
I don't know exactly what was causing it but this is what I did and it seemed to do the trick.
I reset both silverfast studio and HDR. Then when scanning I kept the CCR option checked in negafix (it was off before).
So it had to be one of the two changes that made the difference. I have a feeling it was the CCR.
I was also scanning a different brand of negative film. Could that have made the difference?
Thank you for your help Arne

You are welcome.
And yes selecting a wrong film profile could cause color variations.
Some films have a more dominant orange mask than others.
kind regard,
Arne Ketelhohn.
