VLT/SF 8.5 HDR no longer recognizes HDRi RAW

Postby drm » Sun Nov 15, 2015 7:14 pm

Hi,

This evening I had a bad shock when opening SF 8 HDR. In the VLT, most image previews are no longer showing the HDRi RAW badge, and when I open one of these, and try an Auto CCR correction, the results are horrible. The only files which show HDRi RAW, and which process correctly, are files I previously worked on. As these were just a random selection to test that everything was ok from a major scanning batch, I am 99.9999999% certain that all images were scanned as 64bit HDR. But Silverfast doesn't even seem to recognise that they are SF HDR files. In fact the results of Auto CCR are very similar to doing an auto tone in Photoshop on a SF Studio HRD file.

I am running v8.5.0r7 - I initially downloaded v8.5.0r9, noticed the problem, and reverted to r7, but no change. OS is MacOS X 10.10.5.

It seems that SF HDR is not correctly recognising any HDR files which were not previously processed.

Can anybody offer any advice ?

David Mantripp

Dear Mr Mantripp,

Did you maybe open the images with any other application?
Some applications can not handle these files correctly and could destroy the necessary metadata.

Kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn.

Yes, I opened with Adobe Lightroom. The only change made through Lightroom was to add IPTC Copyright data. I thought Silverfast is IPTC-compliant ?

Lightroom can not handle our special HDR data.
It probably removes some of the metadata it does not understand.
So please do not manipulate the files prior to processing them in SilverFast HDR.

Kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn.

Good to know!
Is there any software which can make bulk additions or modifications to the metadata without destroying the image ?

We ourselves have not tested any.
But another customer told me the ExifTool was adjusted to HDRi files.

Kind regards,
