Silverfast HDR Studio VLT problems

Postby Ray Webster » Fri May 06, 2005 6:15 am

I have upgraded from HDR to HDR Studio and from time to time when sequentially processing 20 or so images the VLT selection fails to deliver a new image to Silverfast, the previous image remains on the preview screen. This occurred on the original release I tried (6.4.1r4b) and the latest release (6.4.1r7a). There appears to be no pattern as to when the problem occurs. Somtimes after processing 10 slides, sometimes after 3. Once it occurs, closing Silverfast and restarting does not clear the problem.

I have not experienced the problem using HDR (6.4.1r4b). I have 2gb of memory. I have tried switching machines and still have the same problem.

I am processing 16bit tiff files generated from scanning colour slides at 4000dpi on a Nikon LS8000ED.

Has anyone else experienced the same problem?

thks .. Ray

Dear Ray

please don't hesitate to contact LaserSoft Imaging support staff: http://www.silverfast.com/problemreport/en.html

I would appreciate if you could paste a fresh copy of the SF_Logfile in the problem report.

On a Mac OS X PC you will find the SF_Logfile in /Users/(your username)/Library/Preferences/LaserSoft Imaging.

On a Windows 2000 or XP system the SF_Logfile is placed within /Documents and Settings/(your username)/Application Data/LaserSoft Imaging.
If you haven't yet changed the standard setting of the Windows Explorer you won't see any folder "Application Data". You then want to open the folder options dialogue (from "Extras" the menu) and go to the "View" tab. There you can enable the Explorer to show you hidden and system files and folders as well as displaying the contents of system folders.

You could of course also you the search function of your system to find the "SF_Logfile". Please make sure that you will be shown hidden and system files. The SF_Logfile is always created anew when SilverFast is started up, even if no scanner can be found, it will be created.

Simply open it with your text editor (double clicking the SF_Logfile) and select all the text (Win: CTRL+A; Mac: CMD+A). Then copy the selection to the clipboard (CTRL+C / CMD+C).
Go back to the problem report and click inside the text field. Move the text cursor to the end of your problem description and insert the SF_Logfile from the clipboard (CTRL+V / CMD+V).

Thanks in advance for your co-operation.

Kind regards
Sonny Noack

I too am having this problem and it is unpredictable when it will happen. I have had the problem with HDR Studio v6.4.1r8c and also with v6.4.2r2b. I also noticed that once the main HDR dialog is active, that the "Open" button does not work either.

I have reinstalled HDR Studio numerous times, even clearing out all the HDR profiles and previews, but it still reverts to the bad behavior after a few slides.

I am processing 16bit Tif files created from scannning color slides on a Minolta DSM Pro.

Here is my log file:

facilitates the support if you have problems with SilverFast. Read this file carefully.
