Problem with jepg2000-Quality

Postby mtmebstorf » Tue Feb 19, 2008 7:11 pm

I'm using Silverfast Ai with Nikon Coolscan 5000 and HDR-Studio. I scanned over 1000 Positives and Negatives as Tiff with no problem. However, if I try to scan 48-bit-HDR-Modus as jpeg2000 (the quality doesn't matter) the pictures are too dark and in bad quality. I cannot get the same quality after processing with HDR compared to the tiff. I do have the same problem, if I generate jpeg2000 from tiff with ThumbsPlus. Any idea, what I'm doing wrong? Thanks

Dear mtmebstorf

with the "48 bit HDR color" scan mode you produce raw scans. These are intended for further use with SilverFast HDR, so no image optimisation can be down while scanning, and gamma gradation will be left unchanged on defaults settings, thus generating you "darkish" images when directly looked into with other apps than SF DCPro or HDR.

To at least apply the gamma gradation value to such scans, check the "for HDR output" option behind the gamma value setting on the "General" tab of the "Options" dialogue window.

Dear Mr Noack,

that's totally clear. The problem is the difference between TIFF and losless JPEG2000. Silverfast HDR is not able to process the JPEG2000 in the same manner. There is a huge difference between both pictures. In some pictures are even miscolors and big squares, which cannot be removed by processing. Thanks for your answer

Dear mtmebstorf

thank you for clarifying the actual trouble you experience. We'll check on that internally...
