Extracting image from HDRi RAW 64 bit

Postby Faurean » Sun Nov 01, 2015 8:18 pm

Silverfast 8.5 HDR Studio on Vaio portable running Windows 10

I have scanned a few 35 mm slides (Epson V700) in 64 bit format HDR RAW. Output files format *.dng, file sizes about 107 MB. HDR Studio's VLT sees the images and imports them in the program, but then I can't do anything with them: all icons and corresponding commands are greyed out.

Is the .dng format the problem, or something else?

Regards, AHF

Dear customer,

Which output format have you chosen?
Please make sure it is not also set to HDR.

Kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn.

Sorry, my original message was a bit confusing. The -dng files are output from Silverfast Ai Studio scans of the original slides into 64 bit HDRi format. My problem is that Silverfast 8.5 HDR Studio does not seem to recognize these files, apart from the VLT button. All commands and icons are greyed out, and I cannot extract any image from the archive. The docks are also greyed out.

Yes that is what I meant.
Have you selected a normal output in SilverFast HDR?

The tools are only greyed out when you select one of the HDRi RAW formats for output.
Please make sure it is set to 48->24 or another output.

Kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn.

The tools are only greyed out when you select one of the HDRi RAW formats for output.
Please make sure it is set to 48->24 or another output.

The middle icon at the top of the docks is set (has all the time been set) at 48->24, if that is what you mean by output.

My work around is as follows:
- with the windmill on the screen start workflow pilot
- change source to Photo and task to Presentation (extracting for a TV screen show from the archive format)
(step the pilot ahead once)
- select an archive file (HDRi 64 bit scanned photo) from the "Open Image" list (I can't remember exactly, but the screen gets its input from the frame set, settings or some preference. I set it some time ago.) Apparently the SF HDR lets you select several images (?), because the Open Image screen reappears after the first selection.
- Workflow Pilot is now at Open; step forward to Resolution.
- Close the Workflow Pilot.
The software is now where I would like it to be when selecting an image through VLT for processing. All icons are lit and burning brightly (naval terminology) and all seem operative. I have not gone much further with image processing, as I want first to find out what I am doing wrong, if anything, to start the process.

Thanks
AHF

(Previous message closed too early)
Could it be that the behaviour of Silverfast HDR is an artefact of Windows 10? System memory is 6 Gbytes. I have noticed that Windows will close Silverfast if you click icons in rapid sequence.

Hello!
I had it wrong (obviously). I watched the movie for version 8 more carefully, and the movie shows all icons greyed out until you import images to the job manager and then start to work on them. I don't yet have the steps fully in control, but it is apparent that I had the wrong impression about starting the process.
Thank you for your response.
AHF
