Background Info:
Canon FS4000US film scanner
Photoshop 6
Monaco EZColor
v**s**n
Windows XP
I'm looking at buying SilverFast HDR to replace the FS4000 software.
Is this the correct workflow?
1. I will use the scanner's software to create unaltered scans saved to TIFF files.
2. Open the TIFF files in HDR and make adjustments.
3. Open the adjusted files in Photoshop to make final adjustments/print.
Other questions:
1. Does HDR come with both the Photoshop Plug-in and the Twain driver? Which one is the recommended solution? Or, what are the pros/cons of each solution?
2. Does HDR come with IT8 calibration abilities? Or, is that an addon?
3. I have a Kodak IT8 slide from Monaco EZColor. Will this work with HDR calibration? Or do I simply use the EZColor profile?
4. Where can I find a Fuji IT8 calibration slide?
I own v**s**n, but have never been impressed with the results.
I would be interested to hear any info on why/why not add HDR to my current workflow.
Thanks,
Steve

Dear Steve.
Your workflow is correct. If possible scan the files as raw data (48 bit color) to keep everything the scanner sees.
Now to your questions:
1. If you purschase SilverFast, you are entitled to get the Photoshop AND the Twain plugin. You can get these plugins in the languages english, german, french, italian, spanish and portuguese. Use the PhotoShop plugin if possible, because only with PhotoShop the colors in the prescan are reliable. SilverFast uses PhotoShops viewing algorithm to display the prescan on the screen. This isn?t possible from the Twain plugin (even if PhotoShop is used as the host application).
2. IT8 is an addition to HDR.
3. Your Kodak slide will work with SilverFast IT8 calibration if you have a corresponding IT8 reference file for this slide. You can also use your existing calibration profile from Monaco EZColor.
4. I really don?t know. Maybe you should research on the internet.
I hope that helps.
Eric.
