Should HDR have the calibration button?

Postby JChell » Tue Mar 25, 2003 2:25 am

I use a Supercoolscan 4000 ED with Ai 6 (updated)and the optional Silverfast IT8 kit,and have the HDR cd that was included with Ai,also updated to current rev.("VLT in HDR" prev. post). My problem is that HDR(unlike Ai 6) is not accepting the serial from the special feature cd. I am not sure if there should be a calibration button in HDR. I am beginning to question whether I have recieved the full version....Any information on this matter would be appreciated,thanks-Jan C.

Dear JChell.

IT8 is an extension for HDR and uses a different serial number than HDR alone or any other Ai / Ai-IT8 version. Please contact the sales department at sales@silverfast.de if you want to upgrade to HDR with IT8.

Dear Eric,Thank you for responding. When I purchased Silverfast Ai,HDR was included with the package as a full version (I intend to scan into HDR (PS-6 plug-in) and perform corrections there.).When I subsequently ordered the calibration kit for the above purchase,I didn't realize it would apply only to Ai.Perhaps it doesn't matter, but my feeling now is it would be better to have HDR calibrated, unless I change my workflow strategy. Thanks again for the timely responses, the support here has been excellent,so far. Jan C.

Dear Jan.

You have two possibilities:

1. You can use Ai (together with IT8 calibration) to scan calibrated raw data, which you later can process in HDR. This would make sense, if you only use HDR with files from the Ai version that you have, since you already have the IT8 feature there.

2. You can use Ai (without calibration) to scan uncalibrated raw data, which you later can calibrate and process in HDR. In this case you would need IT8 for HDR. Evtl. you can change your Ai-IT8 back to Ai and HDR to HDR-IT8, but please ask the sales department.

Eric.

Thanks again,Eric. I will think about this, but probably you are correct about option one, which is how things are configured now.-Jan C.
