With 48-bit scans you are scanning the image as "raw" data. What you get in your image is exactly what the scanner sees (and it sees a negative). Please note, that you can?t open any of the correction dialogs in 48-bit mode, like gradation, histogram and color correction. The big advantage is, that you still have the full dynamic range in your 48-bit image. The new SilverFast version 5.2 offers you a second 48-bit mode, where you can use all the corrections (gradation, histogram and color correction) for 48-bit images. This new mode also converts negatives to positives.

I have upgraded to SF5.5.2 using Polaroid SS4000 with PS6.0. When I scan Fuji Supera 400 (negative film) using HDR @ 4000 the prescan shows as a positive. I can make some adjustments in Nega fix then scan it into PS6 it then scans in as a negative a very dark negative. When I invert it in PS6 it is a very light positive so much so that I cannot bring the color into balance. Does someone out there have any ideas? When I redo the scan in 36-24 bit I get a file in PS6 that matches the prescan. Len
