LZW compression...?

Postby bernd » Tue Sep 17, 2002 4:01 pm

Hi,

I've the following problem:

1. I scanned thousands of colour slides with my Nikon 4000
2. all - original - images are lzw compressed tiff files
3. now I want to convert them by using the batch filem odus with SF6 HDR

 NOT POSSIBLE!

Questions:

1. Why does Silverfast NOT support - at least - reading the compressed tiff files?

I know - LZW licencing....

BUT as Photoshop support LZW why does Silverfast not? This is not a matter of "big use" just a matter that some users must convert all their LZW tiff files for HDR batch conversion.

Any ideas?

thx
Bernd

As you mentioned, LZW has to be licenced, not only writing but also reading.
A while ago, we decided that the licence fee is too big to invest for us and the need of LZW compression is to low. We have very few users that are asking for LZW. Sorry :-?

Eric.

Bernd,

Why don't you just Batch Re-Save them as uncompressed Tiffs or some other format that HDR accepts using PhotoShop? I know it's tedious, but it would work.

Ian,

sure I could batch convert these images - at the moment I've only 9489 tiff files in approx 45 different directories - around 70GB!

let's say 10sec per images -> time effort around 26,5h

nice!

Same here, Iv'e got around 10,000 raw files saved as LZW tiffs as well it's a real pain. I'd like to see HDR be able to read them to, I could batch convert them but with an approximate 40% saving on file space I would have to find another 400gb of storage!
