clarification of upgrade install please

Can you clarify on the correct method of installation that saves the present setting? Here's what I was previously told..

"Please copy your SilverFast folder to the desktop ( not the plug-in) - uninstall the exsisting version and install the newer version. Than put the Silverfast folder back to the import / export folder of Photoshop.
All your settings will be saved."
Then I was advised..."Please do NOT copy the SilverFast Folder back into a new installation. Undo this!"

Please clarify.

It could cause problems with old settings in new SilverFast versions. We change them sometimes. Please use the "Import " command with the different features.
