Silverfast 6.4.4r36
Epson Expression 10000XL
Windows XP
I cannot select several of the "Image Type" options in the "Frame" tab of the scanning window. I cannot select Technic, Snow, Night, or User Defined. If I select User Defined I can enter the variables, but the selection then reverts to whatever I had selected previously.
The software was just installed, and hte computer was just set up. I had the same problem with the software before on my previous system which ran Windows 2000.
The version installed from CD was able to select all Image Type options. Perhaps I should delete the program and reinstall from CD and not upgrade (or is it downgrade?).
Some Image Type options unavailable

Dear leftnotracks
please delete the "LaserSoft Imaging" folder (while SF isn't running) and check whether this does improve the situation.
On a typical Windows XP installation, the SilverFast "LaserSoft Imaging" folder is to be found at:
C: \ Documents and Settings \ (your username) \ Application Data \
If you haven't yet changed the standard setting of the Windows Explorer you won't see any folder "Application Data". You then want to open the folder options dialogue (from "Extras" the menu) and go to the "View" tab. There you can enable the Explorer to show you hidden and system files and folders as well as displaying the contents of system folders.
If not, please don't hesitate to contact support: http://www.silverfast.com/problemreport/en.html

That totally buggered Silverfast and I needed to re-install and restart. I deleted the folder before the re-install. Problem is still there.
Also old problem: If I scan one image as Normal (File) not Batch (File), it immediately opens in Photoshop, which is my default application for TIF files.
Contacting support.

Yesterday I received the response from support suggesting I delete my preferences. That seemed to have solve the problem.
But here I am a day later, and the problem has returned. I am NOT going to delete my preferences (and saved settings and saed frame sets) every day, or even more frequently.
Understand that the problem showed up instantly after a complete reinstall on a virgin machine.

Dear leftnotracks
I won't do support here and back there again. It simply confuses me...
However, as you describe it, there seems to be a problem with SilverFast writing its config to its prefs files in your installation.
I suggest you might want to check the file permissions setup on your machine.
Best regards

Where are we dealing with this then, here or via support?LSI_Noack wrote:I won't do support here and back there again. It simply confuses me...
I'm not sure I know what that means.I suggest you might want to check the file permissions setup on your machine.
In the Prefs folder are four files:
- desktop.ini
- PrefsFolder.ico
- SF (Epson Exp10000XL).prf
- SFApp (Epson).prf
