Silverfast Ai 6.2.0r1 'forgets' personal optionsettings

Postby Willem » Fri Jan 23, 2004 12:32 pm

My former version of Silverfast Ai (6.1.0r38) on my Epson Perfection 3200 Photo kept all my option settings.

Upgrading to 6.2.or1 required to de-install that version. After that, whenever I start the new version as PS7 plug-in or as stand-alone, I have to reset all the option settings which is very anoying.

De-installing and re-installing 6.2.0r1, 'done by the book', didn't solve the problem.

Anyone experienced anything similar or have an advise??

Greetings,
Willem

Dear Willem

the problem is known to SilverFast and should be fixed soon.
Please update when a new version becomes available.

We are sorry about the inconveniences caused by this.

A 'Thanks' and an other question!

Postby Willem » Fri Jan 23, 2004 3:23 pm

Thanks for this swift answer.

This encourages me to repeat a question for which a have not received an answer yet (after ~a week). When I remove dust and scratches with SRD from large files color or b&w with PS7 plug-in, no data will be transferred from Silverfast to PS7 after the SRD pre-scan.

How ever if I use the PS7 plug-in as a stand alone application I can use SRD with very large image files.

My system has 2gb internal memory and PS7 is allowed to use 70% of that. ( other percentages doesnt solve the problem.

Could you please advice?

Sincerely,
Willem

The problem persists in version 6.2.0r2A. Save options or frames in the old version and reload in the new one don't work. Also the registration information is lost.

Greetings,

Michael.

Dear MichaelSt

6.2.0r3 is available and your problem should no longer trouble you.

Dear Mr. Noack,

Thanks for your answer. 6 MB Download instead of 12, nice for modem users.
The new setup finds two versions of Photoshop installed, the right one in ...\Import-Export and a wrong one in \Programme\Lasersoft (the home of \Documentation, \QTMovie and so on).
First, the problem with the personal option settings persists. Then I deleted the SF (Epson Perf2450 GT-9700).prf and renamed the SF (EPSON GT-9700).prf to SF (Epson Perf2450 GT-9700).prf. Now the old options and frames are in place (this should work with the former 6.2 versions also and with the previews too).
The registration information is still lost, also there is no PPCMYK Profile folder (I do not use this feature). I'm not sure, if it's still necessary for the future to uninstall the old Silverfast version first. If not, the PPCMYK folder remains, but there are two Silverfast versions in the registered software.
Temporary, I went back to the 6.1.0r8 version.

Greetings,
Michael.

Dear Michael

the "two versions of Photoshop" actually mean: one Photoshop, one SilverFast folder which can use the SF_Launcher programme to start the Photoshop plugin module. That's why two versions are found.

You did the right thing actually with a clever mind for combining the rights things. This is the way it will work again - the problem only existed for Scanners with two names, like this one "Epson Perfection 2450" and "Epson GT-9700".

When deleting the prefs files, the reg info will be lost, as it is store there.

The PPCMYK folder is created by SilverFast when it becomes necessary.

Also, I seemed to have misinformed - this issue will be solved in 6.2.0r4, not the r3 as stated above. Please excuse this misunderstanding - thank you very much.

Another note to any user of any software:
You don't want to update anything if your configuration works and the newest "features" are not needed by you anyway.
That is, unless you have an awful lot time available and really enjoy trouble-shooting.

Kind regards
Sonny
