Problem installing non-photoshop version

Postby A_Nose » Thu May 13, 2004 2:02 pm

Just received my 4870 w/ Silverfast 6SE. Failed in installing the non-photoshop version of Silverfast.

Used the following procedure as outlined in the Epson brochure:

Step 1. Installed Epson Software
Step 2. Installed Silverfast (only the TWAIN version)
Step 3. Connection between PC and Scanner

Result: Scanner works perfect w/ Epson Smart Panel but Silverfast seems to be not even installed on my PC.

What is wrong? Do I need to install the Photoshop plug in even if I don't need it?

Dear A_Nose

Epson seems to have included an older SilverFast SE with your scanner.
This is no big problem, because you can freely download the latest version of SilverFast 6 SE for the Epson 4870 from our website:
please update to the most recent version which you will get via download from our website:

https://www.silverfast.com/sf-download/b ... roduct=414
This shall resolve your problem.
Please note that you will need the original SilverFast CD bundled with your scanner for serializing the software when it is launched for the first time.

Thank you for the fast reply, LSI Noack.

Found the updated version and did the following without success:

1. Installation of the Twain Update without uninstalling the older version
2. Installation of the Twain Update after uninstalling the older version

Still Silverfast is not available on my system.

Should I better install the Photoshop version together with the launcher software?

Is the Twain version maybe conflicting with the Epson Smartpanel Twain driver?

Dear A_Nose.

The SF Launcher application was designed to work with PhotoShop plugins.

- If you want to use SF Launcher, you need to install the PS plugin.
- The TWAIN plugin should work with any TWAIN compatible application.

Best regards
