pixel alignment issue? color fringe.

Postby kennifer » Wed Aug 20, 2008 7:37 pm

Hello - I'm scanning 120mm color negs using the V750M. Since changing to OS !0.5 (may be related, but not sure) my scans have a problem with a red fringe. The scans are large - 22x22 inches, 360 dpi. Is there a problem with pixel alignment of the red layer? is it hardware or Silverfast AI? Thanks. Ken.

Dear kennifer,
as we started development on some early versions of the V750, there were some units that showed color fringing.
But later Release models did not, so if yous shows color fringe i cannot believe that it is related to the OS change and tend to believe more in a hardware Problem...

Is the color fringing only visible in low resolutions and much better in hires or is it existing all the time ?

Nils - I will attach a screenshot of what it looks like. It seems to me it just started happening about the same time as an upgrade to OSX Leopard, but it could be coincidental. I almost never make low res scans, and when I do I don't take a close look at them - I started noticing the red fringe in high res scans. I usually scan medium format negs at 360 dpi, 22"x22", making scans of about 120 megs. The red fringe shows up especially along lines in highlight areas. In redfinge2 (attached) you can easily see it in the curvy line of the window shade on the house. In redfrine1, I have a scan made with the V750 using Silverfast and on the right a scan made with a Nikon 9000 coolscan. You can see the red showing up on the Epson scan.
So if you are right about it being a hardware issue then I'll need to contact Epson, obviously. Thank you for the information. Ken.

Dear Ken,

yes, i can see the fringing...
To be 100% sure before trying to play the warranty card, please also try zhr original EPSON Software just for a simple scan using the same res...
In SilverFast: which res did you scan, and did you use filters ?! If so, please redo a HDR scan at the same res and lighten it up using Photoshop or the like just to be 100% sure that it is not related to image editing or a software problem. ( also switch of Multisamling / MEX when doing that "reference" scan ).

Greetings,
