Optical Resolution, How Do I Set It To Maximum

Postby Nick Jahn » Wed Oct 13, 2004 7:32 pm

I have an Epson Expression 1680 which is said to have an optical resolution of 1600 dpi (13600 x 18720 pixels). In Silverfast Ai (6.2.1rn) how do I get that maximum resolution, no more no less? I usually scan for 300 dpi of negs and trans, mainly 120 and 4x5. Thanks.
Regards,

Nick Jahn

Dear Nick Jahn

you can e.g. use the DPI slider on the frame tab of the main dialogue.

Maximum Optical Resolution

Thanks. I figured it out before your reply. The key is to make sure that the scale % and output are set to 100% and the exact size of the original respectively. That was what was confusing me.

don't pull the slider all the way to the right. the last position is not an optical resolution, at least not for my Nikon film scanner. it's a software interpolated resolution.

To see the scanner resolution used in the DPI box of SilverFast's main dialogue, please press the CTRL key.

If you press CTRL and SHIFT, you shall see the interpolated value. If interpolation will occur, this value differs from the above.

In neither key is pressed, the DPI value displayed in the DPI box is the output DPI value.

The slider doesn't necessarily represent scanner hardware resolution values (which would differ from scanner to scanner anyway), but typical output resolution values.
